Plan Sifter – a machine held suspended from the
ceiling with wooden dowels, powered from a bottom wheel with 40 varying size
sieve plates that move and shake the grain down through the plan sifter to sift
the grain into varying sizes. It is this machine which provided a major
innovation in milling in the latter 1880’s and allows more product from a bushel
of grain.
The lateral
transport is handled by hand crafted wooden conveyers,

which in close up resemble large wooden corkscrews.
